KNIGHT WATCH
The Knights are looking to get back on the scoreboard after having been shutout the previous two matches, and are still searching for their first win of the season. Chasing the record books is senior forward
Adrian Cekala, who's team-leading three points thanks to a goal and an assist put just one point behind
Grimur Grimsson in second place for career points in ART U history. He first assisted on a goal by junior forward
Fannar Omarsson in the seventh minute, then would collect his goal via the penalty kick, his third consecutive conversion (dating back to last season; last:
Feb. 26, 2021 vs HNU). It marked the 15th goal in Cekala's career, tying him for second place in ART U history along with
Kristof Urbanyi. Thus far in three matches, junior goalkeeper
Davis King has posted 11 saves on 46 shots faced, and has a 2.26 goals against average.
NO WATER FOR THE OTTERS
Cal State Monterey Bay currently sits at 1-0-1 in the young part of the season, but has a matchup on deck with William Jessup prior to facing off with ART U. Starting the season with a scoreless draw with Stanislaus State, the Otters would score their first two goals of the season during a 2-1 win over Cal State East Bay. Offense appeared to be in mid-season form early on, outshooting CSUEB 25-1. It was Ryan Anderson after a setup from Colin O'Mahoney, while the eventual game-winning goal would belong to Adrian Rebollar. In net, Adrian Muñoz has played all 200 minutes for CSUMB in goal, making one save one five shots faced. It's the Otters in front of the Knights in the all-time series by a slim margin, 3-2.
TAMING THE WILDCATS
After winning the season opener against Western Washington in a 1-0 shutout, Chico State has lost each of its last three matchups, scoring just one goal over that stretch. The losing streak started with a 1-0 overtime loss to Seattle Pacific on Sept. 2, followed by a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Saint Martin's, before once more being shutout by Simon Fraser 1-0. Before meeting ART U, Chico State will have one more chance at action as they square off against PacWest member Holy Names on Sept. 16. Both Wildcats' goals belong to Jacob Chong, as he leads the team with four points, while Liam Duerksen had helpers on both goals. In goal for Chico State will be Luis Albarran, who's made 13 saves on 41 shots faced while posting a 0.98 goals against average. The Knights are still looking for their first victory in the all-time series matchup, 0-3-1.
KING HELPS KNIGHTS FORCE OT, BUT ART U FALLS TO WARRIORS 1-0
Academy of Art men's soccer and Stanislaus State would remain scoreless through 90 minutes before Stan State ultimately found a game winner on their only shot of the golden-goal overtime period, squeaking away with the 1-0 win over ART U on Sunday evening.
LOOKING AHEAD
One final tune-up prior to conference play lies ahead for Academy of Art men's soccer, as PacWest foe Holy Names will host the Knights for the last non-conference match of the season on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m.
