2021 NCAA DII West Regional (Second Round)
DENTON, Tex. – Academy of Art women's golf junior
Anahi Servin vaulted seven spots into eighth place after the second round at the NCAA Division II West Regional, as she tied for the third-lowest round of the day by shooting a 1-over-par 73.
At a combined 5-over-par 149 through the first two days of action, the No. 16 ranked Servin is just eight strokes behind individual leader Sofia Ruescas of St. Mary's (TX) heading into the final round. In order to advance to the NCAA DII National Championships, Servin must finish in the top-3 of golfers among teams who do not qualify (top-3 teams). She is currently accomplishing that feat, as Servin is now second among golfers who are not on a squad that is in the top-3 of the team portion.
Beginning the day on the back nine, Servin birdied holes 15 and 17 as she looked to make the turn to the front nine at 1-under, but a bogey on 18 would drop her back to even-par. Starting the front nine with a pair of par's, Servin would bogey the third and fifth holes before following that up by birdieing the sixth and eighth holes. On the final hole of the day, Servin would end with one last bogey at 1-over-par. After four on the day, Servin now leads the entire tournament in birdies with seven, while also leading the tournament field in combined par-5 score at 4-under-par (4.5 stroke average).
Servin has put some distance between herself and fellow Pacific West Conference members, as Raquel Prado of Point Loma is the closest at a combined 9-over-par 153 in a tie for 19th place. Nicola Kaminski of Point Loma and Alli Kim of the Sea Lions currently sit tied for 28th and tied for 31st, respectively, while Claire Shubin of Dominican is tied for 46th.
Servin will tee off for the final round of the NCAA DII West Regional on Wednesday at 9:20 a.m. CST.
