KNIGHT WATCH
It was a 1-1 week for the Urban Knights,Â
earning their first victory of the season against Holy Names by a
final of 2-0 thanks to a pair of goals from junior forward
Brooklyn Morera, earning her a
PacWest Player of the Week award for the first time in her career. The first came in the 26th minute after a pair of nice passes from junior forward
Baylie Christensen and freshman midfielder
Zineb Ighirri, with the insurance coming on a beautiful bender from the right wing in the 71st minute.
The following time out on the pitch was a matchup against a tough Fresno Pacific team, with the Sunbirds scoring a pair of goals in the first eight minutes to cruiseÂ
to a 2-0 victory. ART U generated a handful of great chances, including a free kick that bounced off the crossbar by senior midfielder
Sydney Cooke just before another goal was waved off by an offsides call.Â
The two goals by Morera has moved her into a tie for
sixth place in ART U history in career goals, as she joins Margret Thorolfsdottir and current teammate Cooke with seven career goals. Meanwhile, Christensen added her sixth career assist to tie her for seventh place in ART U history along with Rea Laudat and Alice Michell. After starting in goal during the Knights win over HNU, senior goalkeeper
Lara Pflicke earned her 10th career victory,
now sitting just three behind all-time leader Rachel Rempe for most career wins at ART U.Â
MARCHING AGAINST THE PENGUINS
Dominican is undefeated in three matches thus far in 2020-21, having collected a victory over each of the other three PacWest NorCal pod members. After opening the year with a 2-1 victory over the Knights, the Penguins have a pair of identical 1-0 victories over both the Sunbirds and Hawks. Danielle Gonzalez is the primary goal scorer for the Penguins with two, leading to a team-high five points. Dominican leads the all-time matchup between the two teams, 6-9-3.
HAWK HUNTING
It has been losses in each of the first two times out on the pitch for Holy Names in 2020-21, falling to the Urban Knights 2-0 in the season opener before dropping a 1-0 game to the Penguins this past Tuesday. As a squad, HNU is averaging four shots per game, with goalkeeper Abby Brunell making 12 saves so far on the year. ART U leads the all-time matchup, 5-4-1.Â
