LA JOLLA, Calif. -- In ART U's third match in as many days, the No. 5 senior pair of
Alma Thell-Lenntorp and
Klara Thell-Lenntorp triumphed over the No. 1 doubles team in the country, but a depleted Academy of Art dropped a 4-1 contest to No. 1 Barry, Friday at Northview Tennis Courts.
Â
Not only did the Thell-Lenntorp twins beat the top doubles pair in the nation, they absolutely dominated them, defeating Zuza Maciejewska and Verena Schmid 6-1. NCAA D2 National Championship and featured an identical five point win margin. Klara kept it rolling in singles and playing out of the first position for the first time this season, took down Maciejewska again with a 6-1, 6-2 sweep. JuniorÂ
Mariacristina Andrisani won her second set 5-2, but the match halted due to the Bucaneers clinching. Playing with limited a limited roster due to injury, ART U battled out the remainder of the matches, but no other Knights won a set.
Â
Following the tough loss, Academy of Art moves to 4-2 overall. ART U went 1-2 in their rigorous San Diego road trip that featured three top 25 teams and two teams within the top five. The Urban Knights will head back to the Bay Area for a matchup against No. 16 Rollins College, Wednesday, March 13th at Bay Club SF Tennis starting at 9 a.m.
