Cobe Williams Makes Career Moves, ART U Falls to FPU

FRESNO, Calif. -- A season high 10 assists and a team leading 18 points by senior guard Cobe Williams was not enough, as a late ART U push fell just short in the Urban Knights 78-72 loss to  Fresno Pacific inside the Special Events Center.

C. Williams' 10 assists overtook the number two spot on the ART U all-time career assist list with 195. In addition to making career moves, Williams recorded his first double-double of the season and has now scored in double figures three straight games.

Williams went right to work, assisting the first basket to senior center Cameron Niven to claim the first points of the game. Niven was a key fixture in ART U's offense, finishing with eight points and two rebounds.

ART U jumped out to an early lead but the score remained close with neither team leading by more than four early in the first half. The Sunbirds took an 11-7 lead when senior guard Keil Long drained a 3-pointer to bring the Knights within one. FPU extended their lead but ART U trailed close behind and with 3:10 in the first half senior guard Cole Morgan finished a layup to bring the score to 30-27. Morgan came off the bench to add six points, three rebounds, and four assists against FPU.

The Sunbirds extended their lead in the final minutes of the first half, and the Urban Knights headed into the locker room down 39-31 at the half.

C. Williams opened the half by nailing a shot from beyond the arc, followed by back to back layup by Niven, cutting FPU's lead to two at 42-40. Williams shot exceptionally Wednesday night, going 3-of-4 in 3-pointers, and 5-of-7 from the field and line.

The Knights continued pressing, and with 13:49 to play junior forward Lake Del Mar threw down a dunk to take the lead 48-47. Del Mar has been an integral player off the bench for ART U, making plays in pivotal moments of the game. The Alabama native ended the game with eight points and four rebounds.

FPU answered with a 3-pointer, but C. Williams splashed another 3-pointer to put the Knights back in the lead.

But FPU rallied back to take a 72-64 lead with 1:52 in the game. Sophomore guard Stefan Milivojevic came in clutch with a shot from beyond the arc putting the score at 75-72 with 35 seconds. The sophomore from Serbia ended as the second highest scorer with 12 points, while adding three rebounds, and two assists. However, the Sunbirds held onto their lead and ART U fell 78-72. With the loss Academy of Art moves to 6-13 overall and 6-8 in conference.

The Urban Knights will return to Kezar Pavilion on Friday, Feb. 1 to take on Dominican at 7:30 p.m.
