Men's Hoops Completes Sweep of Dominican

SAN FRANCISCO -- Academy of Art completed the sweep of Dominican and collected a season high 20 assists to propel them to a 79-62 victory Friday night at Kezar Pavilion.

DUC took a 4-0 lead to start the first half, but a layup from senior center Cameron Niven and three-pointer from senior guard Cobe Williams put the Knights in the lead.

C. Williams had another impressive performance for the Knights. The senior put up 18 points going 6-of-10 from the field and 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. He also came away with two critical takeaways. It was a battle between the two PacWest teams with the lead changing a total of 10 times before the half ended.

Dominican snagged the lead, when C. Williams came up with a steal and handed it off to junior forward Andrija Blatancic who drove down the court for a layup putting the Knights up 7-6 with 14:57 left in the first.

The junior out of Norway continued to be an offensive leader for ART U, and finished with an impressive 25 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.


The Penguins took control of the lead at 15-10, but ART U contained the lead to single digits and with consecutive shots by C. Williams the Knights were within one.

With seven minutes left in the first half junior guard Victor Ruiz de Carranza took the ball down the court and finished a layup, putting the Urban Knights in the lead 23-22. Carranza was an key player on both sides of the ball for ART U. The 6'7 guard out of Spain put up a team leading seven assists, seven rebounds, and seven points.

Academy of Art entered the locker room tied at 31.

The second half began much like the first with offensive bursts from each side. With the score tied at 39 early in the second half C. Williams hit another deep ball to give ART U the lead. He followed up with a jumper from the field extending the lead to 44-40.

With 4:38 left to play, sophomore guard Stefan Milivojevic nailed a shot from beyond the arc with the assist coming from Carranza. Milivojevic had a double-digit performance finishing the game with 18 points, four assists, a rebound, and two steals. In the final seconds of the game junior guard Nemanja Kovacevic, came in off the bench and topped off the Urban Knights' victory with a 3-pointer.

ART U's 79-62 win over the Penguins, brings their overall record to 7-13 and conference record to 7-8.

Defensively, the Knights scored 22 points off 19 turnovers. Their overall performance saw them shoot 52.5% from the field, a ridiculous 56.3% from beyond the arc, and 80% from the free throw line.

The Urban Knights will leave the mainland to face off against UH Hilo Friday, Feb. 8  at 7:30 p.m. H.T.
