SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- Academy of Art women's soccer earned their first PacWest victory in the late minutes of Saturday's defensive showdown against Dominican. Junior forward
Anissa Wilson continued to impress as she scored her fourth goal of the year to propel the Urban Knights to their 1-0 victory.
Senior midfielder
Silvia Fernstrom took the team's first shot, which sailed just wide, 30 seconds after the whistle blew. The Penguins came back with three shots in quick succession that senior goalkeeper
Morgan Wirz handled easily. The Urban Knights collected one more shot before the end of the half from senior midfielder
Alice Michell who put it just over the net.
The second half followed a similar pattern, and neither team was able to put the ball in the net. It looked as if the women would mimic the men's team and extend the match into overtime, Until, in the 85th minute, junior forward
Jenny Wittor dribbled down the line and made a cross. Wilson crashed the box and put an exceptional head on the ball, redirecting it past the goalkeeper to break the scoreless tie. With the score, the Fresno native is now second in the entire PacWest in goals and points.
Academy of Art did not concede a single shot the rest of the game and were able to capture their first victory against a PacWest opponent. The win improves their overall record to 6-2 and their conference record to an even 1-1.
Biola is next up for the Urban Knights, Thursday Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. ART U will be back at their home field at Paul Goode for the match.
