Anahi Servin Crowned PacWest Women's Golf Champion

2018 PacWest Championship Final Results

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – PacWest Champion. That is what freshman Anahi Servin can call herself after becoming the first ART U women's golfer to capture the individual title at the PacWest Tournament while propelling the Urban Knights to a second-place finish. Servin earned the title thanks an astounding, 10-under par performance which set a new PacWest record.

The Asuncion, Paraguay native made her intentions known in the very first round when she set the conference, program, and course records with 64 strokes (-8). The following day, she maintained her position in first place with an even 72, but slammed the door shut on Wednesday when she shot a 70 (-2). Servin finished nine strokes ahead of California Baptist's Erica Wang who was right on Servin's heels entering the final day of competition. After the first nine holes, Wang appeared to be closing in on Anahi, but Servin responded with four-consecutive birdies to open the back-nine, sealing her title run. Anahi led the field in scoring on: Par 3s (2.83), Par 4s (3.90), and Par 5s (4.58). She also produced the tournament's most birdies with an impressive, 19 in three rounds, meaning she scored a birdie in more than a third of her holes-played.

"Anahi was putting lights out throughout the tournament," said head coach Elaine Harris. "There were two things that really stood out about her tournament: that she was able to continue to make birdies and putts in the first round to break the school and PacWest Championship records, and that she had the focus and energy to be able to follow that up with tough competition the next two days. Her focus throughout the tournament was to make every putt she saw. I've seen this confidence in her from the first day I watched her play, so it was great to see it all come together at the PacWest Tournament. This was one of the most gratifying experiences that I've had as a coach."

Sophomore Han-Chuan "Vicky" Kuo had the second-lowest score for ART U as a final score of 227 placed her in seventh in the field of 45. Kuo posted a pair of birdies in the final round, shooting a 78 on Wednesday and earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.

"I was also really happy about Vicky's tournament, placing 7th. She broke a personal record and continues to improve. After working on her mental game, she was able to perform at a high level."

Next, was senior Shu-lin Lin whose 85 strokes on the final day landed her in a tie for 13th with 235 strokes overall. Just four strokes behind was the Urban Knights' final scorer: sophomore Elan Hawkins. Hawkins produced her lowest score in the final round (79), finishing in 17th-place.

This is the third-consecutive season that ART U has finished in second-place at the PacWest Championship and they have placed within the top three in all six tournaments since the university became a Division II program in the 2012-2013 season. Ranked No. 6 in the West Region and No. 17 in the nation, Academy of Art will now wait for official word to see if they will be sent to the Super Regionals Tournament, taking place May 7-9 in Durango, Colo. at the Hillcrest Golf Club.
