PacWest Championship Round One Results
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Heading into the first day of the 2018 PacWest Championship, Academy of Art looked to make some noise in the opening round. The Urban Knights did just that, led by the scorching-effort of a program-record, 64-stroke (-8) round from freshman
Anahi Servin. Servin is in first place, leading the field of 45, and she is an impressive, seven strokes ahead of California Baptist's Jocelyn Chee Yi Min in second.
Servin's historic first round was aided by 10 birdies which is more than twice as many as the second-most by an individual in the opening round (4). Furthermore, she beat the previous conference championship-low of 71 strokes which was last achieved by UH Hilo's Kristen Sawada in 2016 and teammate
Shu-lin Lin in 2015. And finally, she set the women's course record at Wigwam Resort and was two strokes away from beating the men's historic-low.
"I am so proud of Anahi," said head coach
Elaine Harris. "She was focused and had a great routine. She has been working on a few swing changes and she was able incorporate them seamlessly."
In second place for ART U was Lin whose 75 (+3) placed her in a tie for seventh. Two strokes behind is sophomore
Han-Chuan "Vicky" Kuo (T11) who shot a 77 in the opening round with a pair of birdies. The final scorer for the Urban Knights is sophomore
Elan Hawkins who tied for 17th with a total of 80 strokes.
Academy of Art will return to Wigwam Resort on Tuesday morning for the second round of the conference tournament
