PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Sept. 5)
 

IRVINE, Calif. – After their individual first place finishes led Academy of Art to a pair of top team finishes, graduate student Gatien Airiau and sophomore Swann Phelippeau were each named Pacific West Conference Runners of the Week. The awards were based on meets run Aug. 28-Sept. 3.

Airiau picked up an individual win in his first race of the season, the PacWest Preview, blowing past the competition with a time of 27:24.1 on the 8k course and winning by a margin of more than 23 seconds. His average mile time was 5:30.7 as the Urban Knights won with a score of 35.

Phelippeau won the first race of the 2017 season, finishing the 6k course in 24:27.3 and an average mile time of 6:33.5. The sophomore finished more than 20 seconds before second place as she led the Urban Knights to a team victory with a score of 42.

These are the first PacWest weekly honors in the careers of both Airiau and Phelippeau.
