SAN FRANCISCO - After a total of 110 minutes on the field, Sunday's match was decided in a matter of 40 seconds: after the Pioneers knocked in the first goal of the game off of a penalty kick in the 32nd-minute, sophomore midfielder
Isiah Quiros responded just over half of a minute later with an equalizer and the match's final goal.
Â
Although Quiros' first-half goal was the final score of the game, the remainder of the contest did not lack offensive intensity. In fact, Academy of Art outshot Cal State East Bay 14-9, including five shots from Quiros himself. ART U had a pair of opportunities to begin the second overtime that nearly ended the game: in the 102nd-minute, Quiros sent off a shot from the top of the box that was blocked by a Pioneer

defender and junior midfielder
Bobby Gutierrez landed the ball off of the ricochet. In traffic, the Riverside, Calif. native sent one towards the net, but it sailed just wide of its mark.
Â
The Urban Knights' strong offense was coupled with an impressive defensive showing as well. Starting in his first collegiate match, freshman goalkeeper
Kris Jensson was impressive in front of the net. The Web Design and New Media major only allowed the penalty kick past him and did well directing plays on the field. As a whole, ART U only allowed three shots on goal which is the fewest since
October 6, 2016 against Point Loma. Furthermore, the Urban Knights only allowed one shot on goal during the two periods of overtime.
Â
ART U will remain at home for the rest of the non-conference portion of the schedule and will host the second installment of the Golden Gate Classic starting on Friday, September 8. The Knights' first game will come against Humboldt State at 1:00 p.m.
