PacWest Conference Men's Track & Field Weekly Awards (Apr. 5)
PacWest Conference Women's Track & Field Weekly Awards (Apr. 5)
Â
IRVINE, Calif. -- After setting Academy of Art University program records and producing nationally significant marks in their respective events,
Gatien Airiau and
Hannah Hensley have each earned Pacific West Conference weekly awards. Airiau's Nationals automatic qualifying time in the 3000m steeplechase earned him PacWest Men's Track Athlete of the Week while Hensley's provisional mark in the high jump led her to PacWest Women's Field Athlete of the Week. The awards are based on competition from March 27-April 2.
Airiau's first 3000m steeplechase in the United States was an impressive feat. He not only set a new ART U record, but his time of 8:51.08 at the Stanford Invitational (
Mar. 31) was nearly a full two seconds lower than the auto-qualifying standard for Outdoor Nationals. His time is currently the second-fastest run by any NCAA Division II athlete thus far in 2017. He also added a 10:26.62 in the 2-mile at the
SF State Distance Carnival, becoming the ART U record-holder in that distance as well.
At the Stanford Invite (
Mar. 31), Hensley set an Academy of Art record in the high jump with a mark of 5-8.75 (1.75m). Short of auto qualification by a mere 0.02m, the indoor All-American is now tied for the second-highest jump by a DII athlete thus far in 2017.
This is the first PacWest weekly honor in the careers of both Airiau and Hensley.
