2017 SF State Distance Carnival Results
Academy of Art University track & field highlighted the final day of both the Stanford Invitational and SF State Distance Carnival with several improvements to current NCAA Nationals provisional marks (women's 4x400m, triple jump) and personal bests.
"Overall there were a ton of personal records and season bests this weekend that came as a result of growing confidence and great efforts as well as several national qualifying marks," said director of track & field/cross country
Torrey Olson. "There were a lot of good steps toward both PacWest and NCAAs."
STANFORD, Calif. – Back out at Cobb Track & Angel Field, the Urban Knights came through with better provisional marks from the women's 4x400m and
Rian Young-Werner in the triple jump at the Stanford Invite.
Schae Graham,
Mistic Scott,
Jasmine Grace, and
Marion Presigny combined for a 3:42.89 that rose them to second in the country in Division II. The mark itself was just 0.35 from breaking onto the program's top five list.
Young-Werner surpassed her previous season-best in the triple jump, flying to a 39-03.75 (11.98m) on her fourth attempt. She moves up to eighth in the country.
Quinlan Wright was just a fraction of a second off his lifetime best in the 110m hurdles with a 14.71 in the finals.
"We had great effort this weekend all around and it produced some big performances for this point in the season," said head coach
Kevin LaSure. "We still have a lot of things to work on but we definitely put ourselves in a pretty good position going forward the rest of the season."
SAN FRANCISCO – The Urban Knights wrapped up the SF State Distance Carnival with multiple first-time marks out at Cox Stadium on Saturday.
After his automatic qualifier in the 3000m steeplechase,
Gatien Airiau offered a 10:26.32 in the 2 mile, the first time an Urban Knight had competed in the event. Fellow Frenchman
Pierre Fontanarosa offered a 4:46.87 in his first time running the collegiate 1 mile in an ART U uniform.
Finishing fifth of 44 in the 200m,
Craig Mattox ran a personal record 22.28.
Jarred Gregory-Grimes also came away with a personal best of 1:56.02 in the 800m. On the women's side of the 800m,
Beatriz Martinez Mercado placed 10th of 84 with a 2:13.51.
After being off from competition next weekend, Academy of Art will have three busy days the second week of April with the Bryan Clay Invite (Apr. 13-14), Mt. SAC Relays (Apr. 13-15), Beach Invitational (Apr. 14-15), and Cal State East Bay Invite (Apr. 14-15).
