Otters Top Knights Despite Dominick's Career-Highs

SEASIDE, Calif. – In an extremely active 32 minutes, redshirt senior forward Pre'Franz Dominick erupted for career-highs of 30 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocks on the road Tuesday evening. 20 of those points came in the final two quarters as Academy of Art University women's basketball tried to come back from a first-half deficit, but ended up falling to Cal State Monterey Bay 84-69 inside the Otter Sports Complex.

After aggressive three-point shooting helped the Otters gain a 15-6 lead out of the gate, ART U responded by cutting that margin to single digits by the end of the first quarter. Back-to-back layups by senior forward Helena Orts highlighted the Knights' rebuttal.

In the second quarter, Dominick heated up early, but Academy of Art was met with a 17-2 run that put CSUMB firmly ahead 40-21. The Otters' 44-23 halftime advantage grew to 66-35 in the third though Dominick rarely missed on the ART U side. She had 12 in the third alone, scoring from a variety of places and blocking two shots as well.

16545The fourth was the Knights' highest-scoring quarter as six quick points by Dominick made it a 66-46 game in the first two minutes. Orts came alive as well and Academy of Art had the lead down to 16 with two and a half minutes left, but Cal State Monterey Bay would hold on to eventually win 84-69.

ART U falls to 0-3 on the season despite Dominick's career day. She added her name into a now six-person list of Urban Knights to ever score 30 or more points in a game. Dominick becomes tied with Zoie Sheng and Sha'Nice Storey's respective 30-point performances for eighth on the all-time single-game scoring list. She went 13-for-25 from the field, converted 4-of-5 free throws, and added 16 rebounds (seven offensive) to join several others with the ninth-most in program history. Her three blocks were also a career-high.

In support, Orts added a season-high 22 points and seven rebounds while redshirt senior guard Jazzlynn Brewster contributed six points and six assists. Sophomore forward Ines Medina came off the bench to offer five points, five assists, and four rebounds.

The Otters' first win of the season puts their overall record at 1-2 thanks in large part to Aubri Smith's team-high 24 points plus six assists. Courtney Keaton added a double-double in the form of 10 points and 16 rebounds.

Academy of Art will head out on an extended roadtrip next week with a stop in British Colombia to play Simon Fraser (Nov. 22) then the Knights travel to Bellingham to play Saint Martin's (Nov. 22) and Western Washington (Nov. 25).
