SAN JOSE, Calif. – Looking to escape the smoky conditions caused by the fires in the North Bay, Academy of Art headed down to San Jose for Thursday's match against Dixie State. Kicking off at San Jose State, it was all Trailblazers from the get-go: after scoring twice in the opening period, DSU added three more goals in the second, taking the match by the score of 5-0.
Â
In the first 24 minutes of play, both the Urban Knights and Trailblazers played each other evenly while ART U did well to fend off their attack. Junior goalkeeper
Morgan Wirz faced five shots while collecting three saves to keep the score knotted at 0-0. However, in the 26th-minute, Darian Murdock scored her first of three goals in the match, giving Dixie State a 1-0 lead. Scoring once more 11 minutes later, DSU entered halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Â
The Trailblazers continued to apply the offensive-pressure in the second half, scoring again less than 10 minutes into the period and later added two more goals to take a 5-0 advantage. In the remaining minutes, senior midfielder
Laney Haviland landed the Urban Knights' second attempt of the half, sending a header towards the opposing goalkeeper, but the shot soared high.
Â
With the loss, Academy of Art falls to 0-10-1 overall and 0-6 in the PacWest while Dixie State improves to 9-3 and 5-2 in the conference. ART U will now prepare for their second match of the homestand when they host Concordia on Saturday, October 14, at Noon.
