FRESNO, Calif. – Academy of Art's women's soccer headed to Fresno Pacific Thursday afternoon, but unable to find the net, the Urban Knights lost their match against the Sunbirds by the score of 3-0.
It did not take long for FPU to get on the board as they scored in the fourth minute of the match. ART U responded quickly however, as three minutes later, freshman midfielder
Sydney Cooke put a shot on goal that was saved by the Sunbirds' keeper. Two more shots were added by the Knights within the next four minutes, coming from senior Midfielder
Laney Haviland and sophomore defender
Mikayla Lopez, however neither were able to find the net. The Urban Knights' defensive effort held strong for almost the entire rest of the first period, but in the 41st-minute, FPU scored to take a 2-0 lead into the half.
The Sunbirds quickly added another score just one minute into the second period making it a 3-0 game. However, if it were not for the incredible efforts of junior goalkeeper
Morgan Wirz, the damage could have been much worse. Wirz made a season-high 12 saves to keep the Knights in the game.
With the loss, Academy of Art falls to 0-11-1 overall and 0-7 in the conference. They will look to revenge their loss on Saturday when they welcome in Holy Names at City College of San Francisco at noon.
