Harrison's Career-Night Not Enough in Loss

SAN FRANCISCO –  In a game that saw a season-high point total and a career-night for sophomore guard Jase Harrison, the Urban Knights were unable to overcome the Chaminade University Silverswords, falling 100-87.

ART U trailed early and the Silverswords would not relinquish the lead once they went ahead for good at the 17:54 mark in the first period. Academy of Art would keep it close however, never trailing by more than nine points for the game's first 12 and a half minutes.

The two teams would battle for the remainder of the half and ART U entered the break only trailing by a seven-point, 36-43 deficit.

In the second period, the Urban Knights came out reinvigorated and saw a surge in several different statistical categories. Academy of Art's 51 second-half points were a 15-point improvement over their first half total. In addition, the team's three-point field goal percentage saw a major spike, rising to 50 percent in contrast to 16.7 percent in the first. Lastly, the Knights free throw shooting received a boost as well: after shooting just over 50 percent from the line in the first period (58.3), ART U improved to an 84.6 percent free throw shooting percentage.

Unfortunately, Chaminade had an improved second half as well. CUH scored 14 more points than the first period, increased their percentage from beyond the arc by nearly 10 percent, and also improved their free throw accuracy.

Amidst the defeat, there were many bright spots for the Urban Knights. One of which includes Harrison who had a night to remember. The Palmdale native posted career-highs in points (30) and rebounds (11) while matching a career-best four steals. Harrison has established himself as the team's foreman over the past month, now leading ART U in average: points (13.5), field goal percentage (.462), rebounds (5.1), steals (1.8), and minutes (29.2). The sophomore's 1.8 steals per game are the fifth-most in the PacWest conference and Harrison is the second-youngest player in the top five.

Two other Academy of Art players tallied double-digit point totals including redshirt junior guard Sergio Valdeolmillos (13 points, three rebounds) and junior guard Chris Salas (12 points, five rebounds). As a team, ART U also outrebounded the Silverswords 36-34 with a 19-9 offensive rebound advantage.

The Urban Knights will wrap up their four-game home stand on Wednesday with a rematch against Holy Names. ART U will look to avenge their January 5, 71-60 road loss when the Hawks come to town. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on February 3 at Kezar Pavilion following the Academy of Art women's basketball game.
