ART U Gets Even With Win Over Holy Names

SAN FRANCISCO – Revenge exacted. When the Urban Knights (5-15, 3-11) first faced Holy Names (3-20, 2-13) on January 5, the Hawks were able to put together a come-from-behind victory. On Wednesday, it was a different story: ART U put forward a dominant defensive effort and broke several program records en route to a 66-58 victory at home.

HNU was out to a quick lead in the first half, scoring a three-pointer in their first possession and adding a jumper a minute later to push their advantage to 5-0. The Knights would stage an early comeback however, going on a 12-3 run over the next three and a half minutes. Their run was highlighted by senior guard Nick Cary's two back-to-back three-pointers, giving ART U a 12-10 advantage and a lead which they would not relinquish.

The second half proved to be another defensive struggle as neither team would go on more than a 6-0 run. HNU would threatened to make a late comeback when Joshua Crum made a layup to put the score within six points with 32 seconds remaining in the game.  The Urban Knights would hunker down however and outscore Holy Names 6-4 in the final seconds to seal the victory.

One of the biggest contributor's to ART U's success on Wednesday was their prevailing defense. As a team, the Knights had a program-record 19 steals. The previous record was set in 2013 when Academy of Art posted 13 steals against Hawaii Pacific. Furthermore, the Urban Knights were able to hold the PacWest's leading scorer (Crum) to eight points when he entered the game averaging 19.7 points per contest.

On the individual level, there were several ART U players that played a big role in the victory. Cary scored a team-high 17 points and rebounded seven. Sophomore guard Jase Harrison followed up his career-night against Chaminade with more broken records. Harrison tied the single game program record of six steals. In addition to his steals, Harrison offered 16 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Lastly, junior guard Herman Pratt IV added double-digit points (10) along with five rebounds, and two steals.

Wednesday's game represented the last game of a four-game home stand. The team will head to St. George, Utah next week to face fourth-place Dixie State before travelling to Irvine and Point Loma to take on first-place Concordia and seventh-place Point Loma respectively.
