Box Score REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — After mixed results in the season's first six weeks, the former NCAA Division II Tournament team from a year ago awoke Saturday to the tune of 14 runs on 14 hits, as California Baptist clinched a series split with a 14-0 Pacific West Conference win over Academy of Art University at Cañada College.
Â
The Lancers (10-12, 2-2 PacWest) scored runs in all but two innings and scored at least two runs in five of them. They had at least one base hit in every inning but the ninth, where they still scored an unearned run after the inning started with two ART U (5-15, 3-5 PacWest) errors. The damage could have been even worse as CBU stranded a series-high 12 runners. California Baptist left 37 runners on in the four-game series, losing games one and three by scores of 4-0 and 3-1, respectively.
Â
The Urban Knights got three hits from three different players, highlighted by junior third baseman
Brett Adami's double off the right field wall to leadoff the seventh. Junior second baseman
Cody Edmunds reached base twice with a single and a walk and junior catcher
Harrison Greenough had a pinch-hit single in the ninth.
Â
Senior reliever
Yoshi Uemura was the Knights' most effective pitcher Saturday, pitching the ninth and only surrendering one unearned run while not allowing a hit and striking out one. Senior starting pitcher
Nick Giotta took the loss, allowing five runs on four hits and five walks in 1 1/3 innings.
Â
California Baptist earned 10 free passes (seven walks, three hit-by-pitch) in the game and saw four of them score. It jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead thanks to four walks and three RBI base hits. The Lancers would score runs in each of the first four innings to lead 9-0 after the top of the fourth.
Â
Four CBU players had multi-hit days, led by Tyler Johnson's 3-for-5, five RBIs performance. Johnson had a double and had RBI hits in the first, third and fourth innings to drive in five of the Lancers' first nine runs. Antonio Chavarria also went 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in one. Designated hitter AJ David went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Academy of Art plays a single non-conference game at Sonoma State Tuesday before continuing PacWest play at home with a four-game series versus Point Loma beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.
