ACADEMY OF ART OPENS HOMESTAND WITH HOLY NAMES Returning from three wins in four Pacific West Conference matches on the Hawaiian Islands, ART U women's soccer looks to defend its home turf with a meaningful match this Sunday against Holy Names.

KNIGHT WATCHComing back from Hawaii ranked fifth in the PacWest Conference with three shutouts, ART U has shown a team effort on the offensive side as well. A total of eight Urban Knights have contributed to scores led by sophomore midfielder
Laney Haviland's two goals then a goal and an assist from senior midfielder
Esme Garner-Purkis, senior forward Rea Laudat, sophomore midfielder
Kendall Bozart, and sophomore midfielder
Aliya Salas. Junior midfielder
Natalie Gabriel leads the team with two assists while freshman midfielder
Alice Michell and freshman defender
Natalie Rhodes each have one goal apiece.
In goal, the Knights have split time between freshman
Morgan Wirz and sophomore
Maggie Alikpala-Wilson. Wirz has made all nine starts to date and has each of the team's three shutouts, but both have a win to their credit and, with a 3.0 or higher saves per game average, both are among the PacWest's top 14.
HAWK TALK After victories over Cal State Monterey Bay and Northwest Nazarene to start the year, Holy Names has lost six straight including four PacWest Conference matches. The defeats were by a single goal against Humboldt State, California Baptist, and Dominican, but most recently, the Hawks fell 3-0 to Dixie State on Oct. 4. HNU's matchup with ART U will be its last before a four-part Hawaii roadtrip. Courtney Okazaki has logged two goals to lead the team thus far and the majority of the goalkeeping duties have fallen on Tiana Miyashiro who has started all eight matches and ranks fourth in the PacWest with 47 saves. The Hawks and Knights have met four times in their history and, after a
2-0 victory last season, Academy of Art holds a 3-1 advantage.
KNIGHTS WIN THREE OF FOUR ON HAWAIIAN ISLANDSART U opened PacWest Conference play with a trio of victories amid challenging weather and field conditions in Hawaii. Starting with Hawaii Pacific on
Sept. 26 and BYU-Hawaii on
Sept. 28, Academy of Art posted back-to-back 1-0 victories then delivered a third shutout (2-0) at Chaminade on
Oct. 1. The trip concluded with a 2-0 loss to UH Hilo on
Oct. 3, but a variety of individuals emerged during one of the program's best showings to date on the islands.
LOOKING AHEADAcademy of Art continues its five-part homestand when Fresno Pacific visits the Bay Area next week on Oct. 14 followed by Dixie State on Oct. 17.
