Live StatsLEADING OFFThe Urban Knights continued to have series affected by weather, as they were only able to get two of the three games against Cal State Stanislaus last weekend before a much needed break. The Knights had a back and forth battle in the final game that was played that saw the Warriors overcome ART U in the tenth inning in an 8-7 loss. Now Academy of Art will play six games in four days to help make up for the missed time and hopefully make a few marks in the win column.
KNIGHTS, HAWKS SWITCHING SIDESThe Urban Knights and the Hawks of Holy Names split time at Laney College, and this weekend will be playing a "home and away" series of doubleheaders. Given the disparity on both sides between home and away splits, the duality of the four games will be interesting to follow. Holy Names will be the home team on Friday for two games, and are 12-7 in Laney as opposed to 4-14 on the road. The Knights will be the home team on Saturday, and will look to improve on their 8-12 home record, as they are still winless (0-10) while away. HNU is led by junior outfielder Matthew Dufford (.325 AVG) and sophomore infielder Dustin Zeisler (.346 AVG) at the plate while Jesse Savage and Micah each have identical records of 4-3 on the mound.
CROWDED IN THE 300 CLUBFor the first time in program history, the Urban Knights currently have four players hitting over .300 on the year.
Chucky Cavestany (.324) is leading the way for ART U, closely followed by Kalani Brackenridge (.316), who is duplicating last year's second half push with a strong stretch of play. Sophomore
Joseph Marchini has made an impressive jump in hitting, starting every game and hitting .312, while
Daniel Skinner has made a strong first impression, hitting .301 while slugging .409 and driving in a team high 16 runs.
Jordan Thomas is right on the outside of that club, hitting .298 with 11 runs scored.
MAKE UP GAMES ON THE SCHEDULEAfter the rainouts were scratched from the Urban Knights schedule, they have been diligently looking for opponents to play, and have been able to add a couple of new foes to the upcoming slate. The Urban Knights will take on CCAA opponent Sonoma State this upcoming Sunday in the first ever meeting between the two teams. They're led on offense by Jourdan Weiks (.347 AVG, 17 R) and Eric Ehlow (.311 AVG, .541 SLG, 3 HR, 17 RBI), and on the mound by George Asmus (4-0, 0.40 ERA, 0.828 WHIP) and Jon Richards (4-0, 2.17 ERA). On Monday they'll take on St. Katherine College, which is entering its first season of their athletic competition as an independent.
WHAT'S ON DECKAfter the busy week the Knights will be back home to host Fresno Pacific for a four-game series on April 18-19, with doubleheaders on both days. The 19th will mark the final home game of 2014, and the Urban Knights will honor their seniors at that game in a Senior Day ceremony.
