LEADING OFF
Academy of Art took one of four from Dixie State but flashed some power in the series, as
Maclane Brady launched two homers in two days and
Daniel Skinner totaled six hits in and four RBIs in the series. Nick Boyett also had his best outing of the year, throwing six innings of 1-run ball with a career-high five strikeouts in a no-decision on Tuesday.
ON THE ROAD FOR REDEMPTION
The Urban Knights had a series to forget two weeks ago against Azusa Pacific, falling in a doubleheader and only managing two runs against the Cougars. The series was cut short by rain so the Knights will head back down to Azusa this week to finish up with a doubleheader on Tuesday. Since the games against the Knights, APU swept a four-game series from Holy Names before splitting with Fresno Pacific. Matt Kimmel continues to hit at a high clip, as he is hitting .429 and slugging .729 this season. Joseph Daris is right behind him, hitting .397 with 17 runs, while Jordan Brower is hitting .324 with five homers and 18 RBIs. The pitching staff is limiting the damage, having a team ERA of 2.07, led by Zach Hedges 1.06 mark in 34.0 innings.
SKINNER SOLID IN FIRST SEASON
Daniel Skinner was marked before the season as being someone who would solidify the first base spot and give some pop to the middle of the lineup, and has done just that. The junior transfer is hitting .340 on the season in 16 games, and in the past five games has hit .450 with a double, a triple, and five RBIs. His platoon-mate,
Maclane Brady, who also serves as the team's closer, also saw success lately, mashing the Knights first two home runs in the season in back-to-back games against Dixie State.
WHAT'S ON DECK
The Knights will return to Oakland and start a homestand that will take them through March 26, hosting UH Hilo and Hawaii Pacific in a pair of doubleheaders this weekend and early next week.
