Box Score ST. GEORGE, Utah — Academy of Art University junior midfielder
Kristof Urbanyi scored two goals Saturday for the second time in three games, which proved to be enough to give the Urban Knights a 2-1 win over Dixie State at Hansen Stadium.
Â
Urbanyi has scored four goals in ART U's (6-10, 4-6 Pacific West Conference) last three contests and five in its last seven. He also has two assists during that time and now leads the team in goals scored (six) and points (15).
Â
Urbanyi tallied both of his goals in the first half, first breaking through in the 15th minute to give ART U a 1-0 lead. He received a pass from freshman defender
Sam McKay and took a shot from nearly 40 yards away from the goal, but the shot skipped past Red Storm (1-12-2, 1-9-1 PacWest) goalkeeper Eddie Ortiz for the score.
Â
The Budapest, Hungary, native would get another one before halftime, finding the net in the 40th minute. This time freshman midfielder
Alex Walsh sent Urbanyi a pass from the right. Urbanyi then put on a display of fancy footwork to weave through the defense before firing a shot past Ortiz for a 2-0 advantage.
Â
Dixie State would not fade that easy, though. Five seconds before the first half buzzer sounded, Sean Jenne put the ball in the back of the net off a rebounded shot from Frank Mallek to make it 2-1 heading into the break.
Â
The second half would play as a stalemate, however. The Red Storm outshot the Urban Knights 8-3 and had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks but could only put two shots on goal. Freshman goalkeeper
Alejandro Escobedo made both saves for ART U, totaling three in the game for his fifth win of the season.
Â
Academy of Art will travel across The Bay to take on Holy Names at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Cal State East Bay's Pioneer Field in Hayward.
