ON THE APPROACH
The Academy of Art University women's soccer team took PacWest-leader Azusa Pacific all the way to the brink last week, toughing out inclement weather to battle to a 1-1 tie with the Cougars, both team's first tie of the year. The Urban Knights picked up the point with the tie, with newcomer
Miranda Corneliussen scoring the only goal of the game for ART U.
Rachael Rempe made nine saves in the tie, with six coming in the second half and both overtimes.
CORTES STEERING ARGOS TO VICTORY
Senior Adriana Cortes has jumped out to an amazing start and continues to lead Notre Dame de Namur upward. The Daly City, CA native has seven goals on the year, and has scored in five of the Argos seven games. Cortes notched two goals apiece in games against Cal State Monterey Bay and Cal State East Bay, and also has seven of the 10 goals the Argos have scored this year. NDNU has been splitting time between sophomore Amy Rich and junior Kelsee Berryman between the posts.
EMMETT SETTING PRECEDENT
Last week we highlighted
Rachael Rempe's march to the top of the Urban Knights career stats for goalkeepers, and this week we highlight senior
Hannah Emmett's contributions on the offensive front. Emmett enters the weekend with 40 career points (17 goals, six assists), almost twice as many as the next player on the list with 21. Her 17 goals are twice as many as the number two, while she is on track to be in the top three for games played and minutes played as an Urban Knight.
PENGUINS KEEPING IT LOW
Dominican University has been playing in some low-scoring contests over the first part of this season, as both the Penguins and their opponents have only scored nine combined goals in seven games. Dominican has not put together any streaks of any kind over the first seven games, as they have alternated wins, losses, and ties the whole way (L-W-L-T-W-T-L). Lauren Gollnick has two goals so far this year to lead the team, while Megan Herring has played all 670 minutes in goal and made 29 saves, allowing only 0.67 goals per contest, which ranks second in the conference. ART U is 4-3-2 all-time against the Penguins.
HEADED YOUR WAY
The Knights will continue to battle for Bay Area supremacy against Holy Names on Friday and then play Dominican for the second time in a week on Sunday, October 6 in San Rafael. After that they'll have their final two home games until November against Point Loma and Dixie State.Â
