Knights, Yoe Both Tie for Third in Chico

In the final round of the Chico State Interwest Invitational, the Academy of Art University women's golf team fell out of first place but finished tied for third to match their highest finish of the spring. Lyra Yoe followed the same path as her team, going from first overall to tie for third overall after another impressive round of golf.

As a team the Knights only dropped six strokes on their score, going from a 316 in the first round to 322 in the second. Their one-stroke lead after the first round over Chico State, the eventual winners of the tournament, fell to the wayside as the Wildcats shot a tournament low score of 302 to take first place with a score of 619. Cal State East Bay finished 14 strokes behind them to take second place, while ART U and Grand Canyon each shot 638 on the tournament to tie for third. Dallas Baptist placed fifth with a score of 640, cutting a full 14 strokes off their first round score.

Crystal Superal cut three strokes off to finish with a second round of 77, matching Yoe for the best of the day for the Urban Knights and a 12th place finish. Andrea Nieto fired an 82 to finish tied for 20th place, while Melissa Genao (T26) and Deanna Tyndall (T37) rounded out the Academy of Art scores. Arinda Bhanaraksa (CSUMB) shot a tournament low 71 (1-under) to take the top overall spot, followed by Andrea Castellanos (CSUEB) in second place. Yoe was tied with Heather Fegley (Chico State) in the third spot, with Mercedes Rios (Dallas Baptist) filling out the top five individuals.

The Urban Knights will be back in action in three weeks when they head to the Grand Canyon Invitational on April 1-2.
