KNIGHT WATCH
Academy of Art is currently third in the PacWest in both points (68) and goals scored (25). Within the conference's top 10 in goals,
Jonmundur Gretarsson paces the squad with five thus far to go with four assists that have him tied with
Aron Ekberg for the team lead. Gretarsson, who has five goals in seven shots on frame, now has 14 points to put him three shy of Andrew "Boomer" Cruz's single-season program record (17). Ekberg needs one more assist to tie teammate
Patrick Heinemann for the program's career record (12).Â
Jon "Jay" Eldon comes into this week having earned a spot on the
PacWest Weekly Final 5 after he scored a goal and assisted another
against Point Loma. Overall, ART U has out-scored its opponents 25-15. Defensively,
Luca Theis (20 saves, seven goals allowed, seven starts) is just one win from tying Ian Sutherland for the program's single season record of seven goalkeeper victories.
Joshua Leader has 13 saves and eight goals allowed in five starts).
HOW TO HANDLE THE HAWKS
The 1-0 overtime win Holy Names had at Academy of Art on Oct. 4 was one of two back-to-back matches the Hawks needed extra time to decide. The following week, HNU battled UC Santa Cruz into a scoreless tie before defeating Dixie State 3-1 on Oct. 12 in their return to PacWest play. Since that time, Holy Names has fallen 2-1 to Point Loma and sits at 3-7-1 overall this season. The team has two main scoring threats in Jamie Phillips and David Norton who share the Hawks' lead with seven goals apiece. It was Phillips who scored the game-winner against the Knights earlier this month. All goalkeeping duties have fallen on Philip Poser's shoulders as he has logged 47 saves with 23 goals allowed in all 11 starts. In two matches played to date, HNU holds a 2-0 advantage over Academy of Art.
MEN'S SOCCER POWERS PAST DIXIE 4-1
Splitting its four goals scored across both halves and dictating the pace of the game nearly all 90 minutes, Academy of Art University Men's Soccer dominated Dixie State
4-1 on Monday afternoon at Crocker Amazon Park. Though the Red Storm got on the board first,
Mike Anderson and
Kristof Urbanyi each responded by netting their first goals of the season in the opening period beforeÂ
William "Willy" Velasco Villa and Eldon added some insurance for the Urban Knights in the second half.
"The passing game was working, we were staying in the attack, and combination play was on for us so we were able to make a lot of chances that way and really that's what we're looking to do all the time," head coach
Mike Keller said. "It's just a matter of doing it one hundred percent of the time so that was a great showing for the guys."
LOOKING AHEAD
Next week will feature the start to ART U's four-match swing through Hawaii that includes Chaminade (Oct. 26), BYU-Hawaii (Oct. 28), UH Hilo (Oct. 31), and Hawaii Pacific (Nov. 2).
