Back In the Winners Circle: Yoe, Knights Finish In First

Team Scoring Final

Vallejo, CA --
Lyra Yoe and the Academy of Art women's golf team ended the Pioneer Shootout in Hayward just where they ended the Lady Cougar Invitational: in the winner's circle. The Knights improved five strokes on their first round score to hold off Cal State Monterey Bay and finish in first place for the second tournament in a row at the Hiddenbrooke Golf Course.

Yoe, who shot a season-best and career-best 70 (2-under) yesterday, fired a 77 (+5) on Sunday but stayed in first place with a 147, leading the charge for the Urban Knights, who finished all five placers in the top 20 to secure the victory. Andrea Nieto shaved five strokes off her first-round score to finish tied for fifth place (157). Crystal Superal tied for 14th place (162), Mariana Pazos finished in 18th (165), and Melissa Genao was tied for 19th with a 167.

Cal State Monterey Bay finished in second place overall with a final score of 631, four strokes behind the Knights. The Otters were led by Courtney Soekland, who shot the low round of the day at 71 to finish in second place behind Yoe. Chico State (636), Cal State East Bay (642), George Fox University (663), and Dominican (825) rounded out the field behind Academy of Art.

The Urban Knights women will be back on the course in two weeks at the Lindsay Olive Wildcat Invitational (Chico, CA). The men's team will play next week at the Notre Dame de Namur Invitational.
