ART U Golf Finishes 2nd Among PacWest, 8th Overall at PLNU

The Academy of Art women's golf team finished up their first action of Spring 2012 with an eighth place finish at the PLNU Super San Diego Tournament. The Urban Knights dropped from their sixth place standing on Day One but still finished second among PacWest competitors behind Grand Canyon. 

ART U's Mariana Pazos finished 13th overall in a tightly bunched top group, only seven shots off the leader and winner, Laura Howard of Cal Poly. Academy of Art finished all five of their players in the top 70 competitors, out of 105 total, and had three players in the top 30. Andrea Nieto finished with the low round of the day for the Knights on Tuesday, shooting an 84, nine shots off Howard's low score of 75. Nieto jumped from 38th on Monday to tie with eight others, including teammate Lyra Yoe, in 30th place at the conclusion of play.

Division I Cal Poly finished in first place and took three of the top five spots in the tournament. The prime competitor for ART U in the PacWest, Grand Canyon, were led by Brittany Penny, who had a team-low 78 for the second day and finished tied for fifth-place overall.

The Knights women's golf team will play next week at Dominican, with the men's team starting of their season in three weeks at the end of February.
