PacWest Release
Phoenix, AZ – On the final Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll of the 2011 baseball season, juniors
Zach Babitt and
Johnathan Robbins both were chosen for impressive performances in Academy of Art University's series against Hawaii-Hilo. Babitt remained consistent at the plate to the year's end while Robbins was the the PacWest's top hitter in the final week. The honors were announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, May 9 for games contested on May 2-8.
Babitt, who hit over .300 for the majority of the year, closed out his 2011 season with at least one hit in three of his last four games. He started the week off strong with a 3-for-4 outing in the opener against UHH on May 3. He scored two of the Urban Knights' six runs in that ballgame, as the junior infielder was continuously getting hits early in innings and coming around to home. Babitt was 1-for-3 with a run scored in the second contest that day.
As the team leader in walks by the end of the season, Babitt was also reaching base with a keen batting eye. He pushed his streak to five consecutive games with a walk in the third contest of the series on May 4. Then, in the last game of the year, Babitt was 1-for-3 with a stolen base. After swiping three in the series, the junior finished with a total of 12 in 2011.
The Richmond, CA native completed the final week of the season batting .417 (5-for-12) in four starts against Hawaii-Hilo. Babitt scored three runs, walked three times, and was 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts. He added a .417 slugging percentage and .563 on-base mark for the week.
Day one of the series against the Vulcans, May 3, was arguably the best of Robbins' ART U career. He amassed three hits in each side of the doubleheader, scored two runs, and notched one run batted in. In addition to his second and third three-hit games of the season, the junior outfielder stole three bases in the opener alone. Hits in each of those contests gave Robbins a seven-game hitting streak which was his longest of the year.
The Charlotte, NC native came back with his 10th multi-hit game of the season in Academy of Art University's last contest of 2011. Robbins was 2-for-3 in that one with a double and a run scored. He finishes the year as the PacWest's top base stealer after swiping a total of 26 this season.
In the final four games of the year, Robbins posted a .553 batting average (8-for-15) to lead the entire PacWest Conference. The junior outfielder added three runs scored, three stolen bases, one double, one RBI, and one walk. For the week, he had a .600 slugging percentage and .563 on-base mark.
