PacWest Release
Phoenix, AZ – Junior outfielder
Niko Leite picked up his third Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll this past week after staying hot in ART U's series against Hawaii Pacific. Leite batted .462 in four games against the Sea Warriors, making him 12-for-23 in his previous eight PacWest contests. The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, May 2 for games contested on Apr. 25-May 1.
Leite began the series against HPU with a strong 3-for-4 performance in game one. The Rodeo, CA native was right in the middle of the Urban Knights' three-run fifth inning in that contest after he put down a bunt single and later scored. On day two, Leite would drive in a run and score a run in each side of a doubleheader. The junior helped Academy of Art early in the third game of the series by putting the ball in play to score one of two runs in the first inning. Then, in the final contest, Leite had his ninth multi-hit game of the season with a 2-for-2 outing.
The four-part series saw Leite go 6-for-13 (.462) with three runs scored, two RBIs, and one double. For the week, the junior slugged at a rate of .583 and posted a .429 on-base percentage. He also hit a sacrifice fly and had a sacrifice bunt.
This is the third PacWest Weekly Top 10 honor Leite has obtained in 2011.
