Women's Golf Takes Fourth at Chico State InterWest Invitational

Final Results

Chico, CA ---
The weather proved to be quite a factor on Monday's opening round of the Chico State InterWest Invitational held at Canyon Oaks Country Club. Lightening and hail pushed back the first round from 9 AM to 1 PM to allow the groundskeepers to prepare the course following a weekend of high winds and torrential rain. Midway through their first round the athletes had to clear the course for more than an hour due to lightening in the vicinity.

When the skies cleared and the day was done the Urban Knights were led by Laura Huertas and Lyra Yoe, who sat in a tie for sixth place. As a team ART U found themselves 11 strokes (324) behind tournament leader Western Washington University (313) as the end of round one.

On day two it was sixth-ranked Grand Canyon who came from five strokes back to win by three in the final round of the Chico State InterWest Invitational. Jacqueline Sneddon matched individual medalist Darcy Lake of Cal State Monterey Bay for the day's low round and Georgina Dunn sliced seven strokes off her first-round score to key the Lopes' victory.

For the Urban Knights, Lyra Yoe took the top spot. Yoe finished tied for 6th place over 36-holes of golf. The sophomore carded a 79 in the opening round, then followed with an 81 in round two, for a toal score of 160. Huertas finished round two one stroke behind her teammate (161), and in a two way tie for ninth.

Crystal Superal, who finished tied for 11th, shot a 162 in the two day event. Andrea Nieto placed 29th in the 48 golfer field, while Carolina Ivarsson tied for 34th.
