PacWest Release
Phoenix, AZ – Instrumental in several of the Urban Knights' rallies against Grand Canyon this past week, junior infielder
Zach Babitt has earned himself a spot on the Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll. Babitt's week accomplishments were highlighted by his performance on Mar. 12 in which he became the only Academy of Art player ever to have four hits, four runs batted in, and four runs scored in a single game. The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Mar. 14 for games contested on Mar. 7-13.
Babitt scored ART U's lone run in the first part of a doubleheader versus GCU on Mar. 11 then followed with a three-hit game in the second contest. Though the Antelopes took an early lead in that game, Babitt led the Knights' comeback with a clutch two-run double. The junior infielder would later come around to score Academy of Art's third run of that final inning.
On day two of the Grand Canyon series, Babitt spearheaded an incredible display of the ART U offense. He was 4-for-6 with four RBIs and four runs in a game where the Knights scored a season-high 17 runs. Though the Richmond, CA native singled and scored in Academy of Art's historic nine-run sixth inning, arguably his biggest hit came in the ninth when he doubled home two teammates yet again. With at least one hit in his last three games, Babitt is also enjoying his longest streak this season.
"Zach has a good approach to hitting going that's getting him his hits," Head Coach Brian Guinn said. "It's just a matter of time because when gets hot, it's going to be hard to keep him off base."
Babitt finished the week 8-for-16 (.500) in four starts with a total of seven RBIs, six runs scored, two doubles, and one walk. His consistency and pair of extra-base hits led to his .625 slugging percentage and .529 on-base percentage for the week.
It is the first PacWest Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll selection for Babitt this season.
