Phoenix, AZ -- At the forefront of the Urban Knights' first shutout of the season was junior goalkeeper
Ian Sutherland who was selected for the Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll this week. Sutherland made several crucial saves to keep Academy of Art in front and help ART U to its first conference victory this year, 3-0 over CUH. The selection was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ on Monday, Oct. 3 for games played Sept. 26-Oct. 2.
Sutherland, a Honolulu, HI native, stopped four shots on goal by the Silverswords in the opening half, all within the first 30 minutes of play. After the Knights assumed an advantage in the second minute, Sutherland and the ART U defense proceeded to lock down Chaminade's attack attempts. The junior showed his expert timing to stop a total of five shots on frame in the match and was vocal in his direction of his fellow defenders.
After the match, Head Coach Daniel Rosaia voiced his appreciation for Sutherland's efforts not only on Saturday, but also throughout the season.
“Ian is a good goalkeeper who has matured well in his third year for us,” Coach Rosaia said. “He has been playing hard and he's a good leader for the team. Our defense is playing well right now because they are playing as a unit, communicating, and doing their jobs."
In addition to logging the Knights' first shuotout of the year, Sutherland now leads in saves (13) and minutes played (343:13). He has started the past three conference matches after an injury early in the season kept him out briefly.
This is Sutherland's first PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll of 2011 and the second in his ART U career.
