Heinemann and Bartelle Collect PacWest Weekly Honors

PacWest Release

Phoenix, AZ --
In a week where the Academy of Art University men's soccer team set a program scoring record with a 6-4 victory over Dominican, the sophomore tandem of midfielder Patrick Heinemann and forward Leonardo Bartelle earned places on the Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll. The pair combined for eight points by way of three goals and two assists in the historic match which helped ART U to its third conference victory of the year. The honors were announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ on Monday, Oct. 17 for games played Oct. 10-16.

In the first half of last Saturday's match, Heinemann was an offensive juggernaut setting up teammates and going for a goal himself. He provided the assist for Academy of Art's first goal in the 3rd minute by senior forward Andrew Cruz then set up Bartelle shortly thereafter. The ball he sent to Bartelle in the 11th minute would soon result in the Knights' second goal of the afternoon and, in the 23rd minute, Heinemann scored unassisted to put ART U up 3-0.

For the season, Heinemann is now tied with the team lead in points (8) with two goals and four assists. He is also tied for fourth in the PacWest in total assists. Saturday also marked the second time in Heinemann's career in which he notched two assists with the first coming at Chaminade on Sept. 29, 2010 last season.

The pair of goals by Bartelle were also recognized by the PacWest. In the aforementioned 11th minute, the Brazilian forward connected on his first goal following a pass from Heinemann. Then, 10 minutes after the Penguins had showed signs of life with a goal to make it 3-1 Knights, Bartelle added to Academy of Art's offensive erruption with an unassisted goal in the 34th minute.

Thus far in 2011, Bartelle has three goals which ranks second on the team. He also leads ART U with 26 shots with nine on frame.

Heinemann and Bartelle each earn their first PacWest Weekly Top 10 honor of 2011. It is the first in Bartelle's career and the second of Heinemann's career.
