PacWest Release
Phoenix, AZ -- Junior forward
Grimur Grimsson sparked an incredible come-from-behind victory by Academy of Art men's soccer over Notre Dame de Namur this past Thursday and earns his second Pacific West Conference Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll for his efforts. Grimsson scored the game-tying goal in the final seconds, effectively sending the match into overtime where ART U would win 2-1. The honor was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ on Monday, Oct. 10 for games played Oct. 3-9.
After the Urban Knights battled NDNU through 76 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Argos found the upper hand with a goal and appeared to be rolling on their home field. Then, with 50 seconds remaining in regulation, senior defender and Iceland native
Vilmundur Sveinsson sent a ball to his fellow countryman for a one-on-one situation on the left side. Grimsson forcefully sent it to the back of the net and a 1-1 tie would send things into overtime.
“It was a great feeling,” Grimsson said about the goal. “I felt it in the team when equalizing the game because we were all on the same page. Vimmi gave me a great chance and I was excited to be able to score it. There was definitely some Icelandic chemistry there.”
After Academy of Art finished the match on a goal by freshman forward
Frederik Nagel, head coach Daniel Rosaia reinforced the message that hard work pays off,
“You love to have an Icelandic connection [for Vimmi and Grimur], but it's really about guys working hard and putting each other in position to be successful. You work hard in practice and then it translates to the game. We're trying to be more consistent as a program and are working toward that every day.”
Grimsson continues to lead the team in goals scored with four thus far and eight points. He has one of the Knights' three game-winning goals.
This is Grimsson's second PacWest Top 10 Honor Roll in 2011 and the fifth he has received in his ART U career.
