Final Results
Chico, CA --- After two days of dominating scores in the InterWest Chico State Invitational, freshman
Crystal Superal took first place handily at Butte Creek Country Club on Tuesday. She finished with an impressive 149 (74-75) to end up a full six strokes in front of the next best golfer on the par-72 course. As a team, Academy of Art placed fifth overall with a 656 (336-320), but it was the second consecutive tournament won outright by
Superal and her third tournament finish in the top two.
The Urban Knights were in fifth place at the conclusion of Day One with their 336 score and although they stayed in that slot, AAU tied Western Washington University for the top score on day two (320).
Superal was first among all golfers after the first day of competition, posting a 74, and she only created more separation on that position with her 75 on Day Two.
Freshman
Laura Huertas came through with in a tie for 15th overall with her 164 (80-84) score. Behind Huertas, freshman
Lyra Yoe bounced back from Day One and actually tied
Superal for the best score in the second day's action. Yoe finished in a tie for 21st with a 167 (92-75).
The fourth Knights placement went to freshman
Andrea Nieto who shot a 176 (90-86) to take home a tie for 36th overall. Freshman
Khadija Del-Lero ended with a 52nd and posted a 208 (98-110).
As a team, Academy of Art bested teams such as host Chico State, St. Martin's University, and fellow Pacific West Conference opponent University of Hawaii - Hilo.
Sonoma State University was the top team in the Invitational and scored 639 (318-321). Second place was awarded to Western Washington University with the Vikings' 648 (328-320).
The Urban Knights will next return to the Blackhorse Golf Course in Seaside, CA for the second time this season. AAU's next tournament, the Golf Mart/Lady Otter Invitational, will be hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay on Mar. 29-30.
