San Marcos, CA --- Due to unfavorable weather conditions on the opening round of the Cougar Invitational the women's golf team were only able to play one 18-hole round of golf on Sunday afternoon.
As the Urban Knights took to the par 72-course it was freshmen
Lyra Yoe and
Laura Huertas who broke away from the pack.
Yoe and
Huertas each garnered top 10 finishes against some of the nations top Division II golfers, with
Yoe's fifth place finish taking the top spot for the Knights.
Yoe shot a 40 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine for a combined round of 79.
Huertas was just one stroke behind her teammate and finished with an 80 (40 - 40) over one round of play.
As a team the Urban Knights finished 3rd out of eight teams.
Crystal Superal nabbed a 12th place (43 - 41, 84) finish and
Andrea Nieto finished tied for 14th (42- 43, 85).
Khadija Del-Lero finished in 35th place in her Urban Knights debut.
The women take to the course again March 8th when they travel to Hayward to play in the CSU Eastbay Invitational.
