San Francisco, CA - Fresh off their return from Hawaii, the Academy of Art University battled against Dominican University Thursday afternoon. The Urban Knights came out attacking, but were matched by the Penguins. In a game that got progressively more physical, the ART U women held their own. When the game was tied 1-1 at the end of regualtion play, the teams headed into overtime. The Knights fought until the end, and came out victorious with a 2-1 win over the Penguins.
The Knights came out attacking from the start of the game. They made a statement early with a goal that came in the 8th minute of play. Freshman

Maya Tucker's corner kick to give the women a 1-0 lead. The Knights' defense was doing well keeping the Penguins quiet, but at the end of the first half, Dominican scored to tie things up.
Both team's defense's led the tempo of the gave as there were not many shots in the match. The Knights outshot the Penguins on goal, 5-4. As both teams continued to fight for the lead, they were kept scoreless throughout the second half. After the end of regulation play, the game was tied, forcing overtime on the women.
"The team had heavy legs lingering from our five games in a week in Hawaii," said Nasypany. "They had to find the mental toughness to stay true to our game plan."
Dominican had the momentum at the start of overtime, but the Knights were able to turn that around. Sophomore keeper,
Hana Klimek, made what was possibly her best save of the game in the 100th minute of play, to stop what could have been the game winning goal for Dominican. From there, ART U regained control of the game.
Near the end of second overtime, the Knights were able to capitalize on thier shots. Senior
Emi Sullivan scored off a rainbow kick that landed over the goalie's head for the game winning goal. It came off an assist by sophomore
Jasmine Sharpe. That goal put the Knights back on top, giving them the win in the 106th minute of play."Emi had been dynamic all match creating opportunities for the team. This time she decided to turn quickly and fire a long range shot into the upper far post corner which caught the Dominican keeper off guard," added Nasypany. "The ball sailed across the box, knicked the bottom of the crossbar and fell into the back of the goal. It was an amazing way to end a much deserved win for the program."
Leading the Knights in the game was Sullivan and Emmett who both had two shots on goal, and one goal in the game. Tucker also did well with one shot and one assist, and Sharpe stood out with one assist on the day. Keeper Klimek played all 106 minutes of the match allowing just one goal, and recording three saves. She receives the win in the game.
"The team played hard today, fought the entire game and pulled off a tremendous win," said Head Coach Aileen Nasypany. "Today they finally played together as a team. They exhibited leadership on the field, held each other accountable, and really battled for each other. They had conviction in what they set out to do and played with pride for the name on their jerseys."
For the Penguins, Tori Selesia did well with two shots and one goal. Katie Brown recorded the assist for her team in the game, and also had one shot on goal. Goalie Megan Herring recorded the loss, after she allowed two goals and posted three saves on the day.
After the win, the Academy of Art University's record improves to 2-8-1 overall and 1-8 in conference, while Dominican University's record falls to 3-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference. The Urban Knights play next on Saturday, October 9th at 4:00 pm. They are set to take on Notre Dame de Namur University at Boxer Stadium.
