Back from the road: The Urban Knights just returned from an eight day, five game road trip in Hawaii. The women played well but were plagued with injuries from the start of the trip. The Knights are making huge strides in their play and are having strong outings despite coming up short. Now that they are home from the road, they are hoping to turn things around.
ART U outlook: The women will be home through the weekend to face the two other bay area conference schools. They start with Dominican University on October 7th, and wrap up the short homestand with Notre Dame de Namur on October 9th. Games will be held at Boxer stadium.
Leading Ladies: The Knights have had strong offense all season. The women are still led by freshman
Hannah Emmett who has three goals and two assists on the season, for a total of eight points. Junior
Megan Bucci is also doing well with two goals and two assists for six points, and she currently leads her team with 27 shots thus far. Sophomore
Carmela Doerr has two goals for four points, and sophomore
Jasmine Sharpe has one goal and two assists for four points as well. Sophomore
Melissa Co has been great in the net for the Knights. She has been their main keeper seeing 695 minutes of play in the net, and recording 50 saves.
Scouting Dominican University: The Penguins are doing well this year as they currently sit in 4th place in the conference standings with a 3-4-1 overall record. They are led offensively by Julianna Bratsberg who has four goals and one assist for seven points. Shayna Elkins has also done well thus far with two goals, while three other Penguins have recorded goals on the season. Their main keeper Megan Herring has allowed 14 goals and posted 56 saves in over 640 minutes of play. The Penguins have a large roster that includes five seniors. Although the Penguins sit higher in the conference rankings, ART U has scored one more goal than they have on the season. When the two teams last faced each other in 2009, Dominican came away with the victory by a score of 2-0.
Scouting Notre Dame de Namur University: The Argonauts sit right below Dominican University in the PacWest rankings, as they are in 5th place in the conference standings. They currently have a 4-4-1 overall record and are 2-2-1 in conference. They are led primarily by Alexis Tershay who has two goals and three assists for seven points. Sarah Biser, Andrea Huerta, and K.C. O'Shea each have two goals for four points on the season. As a team they have recorded nine goals, 133 shots, and 45 saves. Their only goalie is Kelsey Baxter and she has allowed nine goals and posted all of her team's 45 saves. Most recently, the Argos tied with Dominican University on October 1st. When NDNU and ART U faced each other last season, the Argonauts defeated the Urban Knights two games to none.
Looking Ahead: After the short two game homestand, the Knights travel to play UC Santa Cruz in a non conference game. They are set to play Santa Cruz on October 16th, at 3:00 pm at East Remote Soccer Field.
