San Rafael, CA – The Academy of Art University's women's soccer team played a rematch against bay area rivals Dominican University on Saturday afternoon. The game proved to be evenly matched in the beginning as both teams came out eager for the win. Although the Urban Knights' offense was attacking, they were unable to capitalize on any of their shots. The Penguin's offense was relentless, and ART U ended up dropping the game to Dominican with a final score of 0-4.
While the Knights' offense was busy looking for opportunities, the Penguins managed to score a goal of their own early in the first half. After that, the Urban Knights' defense stepped up and kept their opponents quiet for a while. But in the final minute of the first half, the Penguins scored again off a penalty kick, to take a 2-0 lead heading into half time.
Despite the two goal deficit, the ART U women were relentless with their offense. Unfortunately, the women were unable to find the net with any of their shots, and would be kept scoreless in the game. The Penguin's offense proved to be too much for the Knights' defense, and the women were not able to recover from the early Dominican lead.
The Urban Knights posted eight shots in the game. Lauren Umana had a good day for her team with two shots, including one shot on goal. Hannah Emmett also did well with four shots in the game, and Solveig Barnes, and Morgan McKnight both recorded on shot on the day.
Sophomore goal keeper Melissa Co receives the loss for the Urban Knights. She played all 90 minutes in the net for her team, allowing four goals and recording six saves in the match.
For the Penguins, Julianna Bratsberg had a great game for her team. She had five shots, four which were on goal, and three goals in the game. Bridget Folan had two shots, one goal, and one assist, and three other Dominican players recorded a shot on goal on the day.
After the loss, the Academy of Art University's record falls to 2-11-3 overall and 1-10-1 in conference, while Dominican University's record is at 7-8-1 overall and 6-5-1 in conference. The Urban Knights play next on Thursday, November 4th against Notre Dame de Namur University. This will be the Knights' last away game of the season. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 pm at Koret field in Belmont, CA.
