Women Just Edged Out by Silverswords

Box Score

Honolulu, HI – In the final game of their Hawaiian road trip, the Academy of Art University women came out strong as they faced Chaminade University on Sunday afternoon. It was the second match-up between the two teams in just four days, and the Knights meant business. The women had both solid defense and offense as they held the Silverswords for a while.  But after a scoreless first half, the Silverswords scored the first and only goal of the game early in the second half. ART U ended up dropping the game with a final score of 0-1.

The Urban Knights have been plagued with injuries the entire trip, but gave it all they had left in this game. The women controlled the tempo of the game as their offense came out attacking. But Chaminade's defense proved to be a good match for the Knights' offense as both teams were kept scoreless during the first half.

The two teams had a good battle going as they headed into the second half. Chaminade happened to score a goal in the 49th minute of play to take the lead in the game. The Knights had a chance to even the game out in the 80th minute, but it was stopped by the Silversword keeper. Even though the Urban Knights outshot the Silverswords 13-9, they fell to their opponents 0-1.

Sophomore Carmela Doerr had a great game for the Urban Knights recording three shots, two which were on goal in the game. Freshman Hannah Emmett also stood out for her team with two shots on goal, and juniors Olivia Dupon and Jessica Madrid, and sophomore Rebecca Mandell each posted one shot on goal in the match.

Sophomore keeper Melissa Co played a great game in the net for ART U despite receiving the loss. She played all 90 minutes allowing just one goal, while posting eight saves.

For the Silverswords, Tiffany Nakata did well having three shots on goal, and the game winning goal for her team. Amber Bonifacio also did well with three shots on goal, and recorded the assist. Keeper Marissa Minor received the win posting seven saves in the game.

After the loss, the Academy of Art University's record falls to 1-8-1 overall and 0-8 in conference, while Chaminade University's record improves to 2-4 in conference play. The Urban Knights now return home for a two game homestand that begins on Thursday, October 7th. The women are set to take on Dominican University at Boxer stadium, with kick off at 1:00 pm.
