Knights Geared Up to Host Grand Canyon Tomorrow

Knight Update: The Urban Knights most recently played their last non-conference game of the season against William Jessup on October 22nd. The women battled the elements and a top ranked NAIA team to finish in a 0-0 tie. For her efforts in this game, keeper Hana Klimek was named to the PacWest honor roll, noting her six saves and shutout in the game.

Week Ahead: ART U resumes conference play with their game against Grand Canyon on Oct. 28th. Due to rain in the forecast, the game has been moved to Treasure Island (H and 11th street) and will now be played at 1:00pm.

Knights to Watch: The Urban Knights' two goal keepers, Klimek and Melissa Co have played a combined 1335 minutes in the net, and together have recorded 86 saves, which puts them 3rd in the conference in saves. Freshman Hannah Emmett is ranked 5th in the PacWest in points with 12 (five goals, two assists), and Sophomore Jasmine Sharpe is tied for third in the conference in assists with three.

Scouting Grand Canyon University: The 'Lopes have had a solid 2010 season as they sit in 2nd place in the PacWest rankings. As a team, they have scored 30 goals this season, while holding their opponents to just 13. Marina Nesic leads the team with 10 goals and three assists for a total of 23 points this year. Behind her is Michelle Carals who has five goals for ten points on the season. Eight other 'Lopes players have recorded goals this season; and three of those players have recorded multiple goals. Stephanie Phillips has been the main goalie for the 'Lopes and has seen more than 1066 minutes in the net. She has a 6-4-1 record, and has posted 50 saves. In the first match-up between the Knights and the 'Lopes earlier this season, the 'Lopes came away with the victory.

Scouting Dominican University: The Penguins are also having a strong season as they have a 5-4-1 conference record. They currently sit in third place in the PacWest rankings. As a team, they have scored 17 goals, while their opponents have scored 21. They are led offensively by Julianna Bratsberg who has four goals, and three assists for 11 points. Both Mary Wheeler and Shayna Elkins have scored three goals on the year, and Katie brown has posted an impressive seven assists. Megan Herring is their main keeper, who has a 5-6-1 record. She has seen over 1196 minutes of play in the net, and has allowed 19 goals while posting 79 saves for her team. When the two teams faced each other earlier this season, the Urban Knights came away with a win in double overtime to defeat the Penguins.

Looking Ahead: After the home game, the Knights head on the road for their final road trip of the season. They begin with a game at Dominican University on October 30th and finish with a game at Notre Dame de Namur on November 4th. They then return home for their final game of the season on November 6th where they will host Dixie State.
