Road Trip Re-Cap: The Urban Knights struggled during their recent three game non-conference road trip. After losing 0-9 against Cal State L.A. the women stepped up both their offense and defense in their next two games. Despite losing to Biola University (CA) 0-2 and Menlo College (CA) 0-1, the team looks to be making improvements in every game. The real test for the Urban Knights will be their start of PacWest Conference play which starts at the end of the week.
Urban Knight Update: The women have a current record of 0-5-0 overall. The Urban Knights have a ten day game break before starting their next string of matches. They don't play again until September 19th. They take on Notre Dame De Namur University (NDNU) to begin their PacWest Conference schedule.
Scouting Notre Dame de Namur University: The Argonauts are off to a slow start this season under the direction of new Director of Soccer and Head Coach BJ Noble. This is Noble's first season with NDNU as he previously coached men's soccer at the Division III level. The Argonauts have a current record of 0-4. Last year the team finished with an overall record of 10-10-0 and a 7-5-0 conference record. NDNU is returning seven seniors and three juniors to the roster this season. Leading the team is sophomore Sarah Biser, who was named to the All-PacWest Conference team last year. Biser also received the PacWest Conference Newcomer of the Year award in 2008.
Scouting Dominican University: This will be the first season Dominican University will compete at the Division II level. Recently accepted into the NCAA, Dominican University is off to a rocky start this season. They currently have a 1-3-1 record heading into conference play. The Penguins had a very successful '08 season in which several of their players received conference honors. They are returning Eleanna Mendez who repeated as Cal Pac Player of the Year last season. Five of her teammates including Bridget Folan, Michelle Mason, Christine Coleman, Julianna Bratsberg and Shayna Elkins received Cal Pac First Team Awards last year and Head Coach Jon Delano was named Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. The Penguins are returning all their players that received conference awards in 2008.
Looking Ahead: This two game road trip marks the beginning of conference play for the Urban Knights. They return home on September 24th, for a seven game home-stand. The women are hoping to earn their first win of the season in the upcoming conference games. They take on NDNU on September 19th at 11:00am in Belmont, CA.
