SEASON FINALE AT DIXIE & GRAND CANYON:
Academy of Art University will wrap up its 2009 campaign with two November matches on the road.Both contests will be rematches with the first taking place in St. George, UT. The Urban Knights defeated the Red Storm 3-0 earlier this season and the second match pairs AAU with Grand Canyon, who currently hold the PacWest's top record.
OPENING KICKOFF:
The Knights face
Dixie State this Thursday, Nov. 5 at the Red Storm's home of Hansen Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM CST.
Academy of
Art's final match of the season will be against the Antelopes and is set for 2:00 PM at the GCU Soccer Complex in
Phoenix, AZ.
SCOUTING THE RED STORM:
The sole victory for Academy of Art University in PacWest play was a 3-0 win over Dixie State College back on Sept. 28. More recently, the Red Storm split its four matches in
Hawaii with two wins as well as two losses and
Dixie will be on a three-match losing streak heading into Thursday's action. Forward Jordan Roylance has connected on 11 goals this season to guide the Red Storm in their five victories. Goalkeeper Tyler McAninch is the main line of defense for DSC with his 49 saves and 21 goals allowed in over 1,160 minutes thus far.
SCOUTING THE ANTELOPES:
Although Grand Canyon has simply dominated the conference this season, the 'Lopes returned from their
Hawaii roadtrip with just one win, one loss, and a tie. They will face NDNU on Nov. 5 in a match that will likely determine which team is in line to win the league title. This week, forward Kyle Ciliento was named PacWest Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. Ciliento now has 20 goals in 18 matches with five assists in 2009. Along with the powerful offense,
Grand Canyon's defense is spearheaded by goalkeeper Ben Paneccasio. He has registered 43 saves with just 10 goals allowed in all but 14 minutes this season.
ACADEMY OF ART UNIVERSITY'S WEEK IN HAWAII:
With three matches away from the mainland this past week, the men's soccer team endured three tough losses. On Oct. 26 versus BYU-Hawaii, the Knights fell behind 2-0 in the first half, but scored two goals in the second period to push the match into overtime. Unfortunately for AAU, the Seasiders then managed an unassisted goal and won 3-2. In a rematch with Chaminade on Oct. 28,
Academy of Art could not recover after falling behind 2-0 early in the second half. Finally, the Urban Knights struggled against
University of
Hawaii –
Hilo and en route to a 5-0 defeat on Oct. 30.
