Capturing their first win: On October 10th the Urban Knights earned their first win of the season against Chaminade University, with a final score of 3-0. It was scoreless through the first half, but the women were relentless and eager for the win. Carmela Doerr scored the first goal just minutes into the second half. Doerr followed up with another goal, this time off a penalty kick; giving her team a 2-0 lead over the Silverswords. Jasmine Sharpe secured the win for the Urban Knights by scoring the third and final goal, assisted by Olivia Dupon. The Academy of Art University outshot the Silverswords 30-4, and eight different Urban Knight players had shots in the game.
Wrapping up the home-stand: Saturday, October 17th will be the last home game of the season for the Urban Knights. After hosting the previous seven games, the women hit the road after Saturday's game to play out the remainder of their season. The Urban Knights will play six games on the road, five of which are PacWest conference teams. The women currently have a 1-4-2 record in conference and are in 8th place in the PacWest rankings.
Scouting Dominican University: The Penguins are currently in 6th place in the PacWest Women's soccer standings. They have a 2-3-1 conference record and 4-6-2 overall record. The last time the Penguins faced the Urban Knights, they finished in a 1-1 tie. As a team Dominican University has a total of 19 goals, 131 shots and 55 saves on the season. Mary Wheeler leads the Penguins with five goals and two assists, for a total of twelve points and Eleanna Mendez and Stephanie Malone are both in second with four goals and one assist each, for a total of nine points. Bridget Folan also has twelve points on the year, with three goals and three assists. The Penguin's starting goal keeper Alicia Paulsen has allowed 21 goals and posted 45 saves in over 1058 minutes of play. For the week of September 14th, Paulsen was named PacWest player of the week.
Looking ahead: After concluding the home-stand on Saturday, the Urban Knights head to UC Santa Cruz for one game on October 23rd. Just three days later the Academy of Art University heads to Hawaii on a three game road trip.
