Box Score

San Francisco, Calif. -- The Urban Knights men's soccer team suffered another one-goal defeat by falling 1-0 to visiting Brigham Young University – Hawaii. Freshman forward Brazer Bozlak notched four shots in the contest, one on goal, and the Knights managed 12 shots in total, but it was not enough to get Academy of Art University on the board. The loss drops AAU's record to 4-8-1 overall and 1-6 in Pacific West Conference matches while BYU-Hawaii now stands at 3-6-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the PacWest.

The opening period was a close battle despite no goals being scored. Seven Urban Knights recorded a shot in the first half compared to five Seasiders and freshman goalkeeper Ian Sutherland had four of his five saves in that first 45 minutes. Midway through the period, Academy of Art University did have an opportunity with senior midfielder Jaime Patino-Calvo jumping into the box to head a ball into BYU-Hawaii's goal, but he was called for being offsides on the play.

With the teams deadlocked at 0-0 heading into halftime, the second half was bound to have a greater level of intensity. The tie was broken when forward Sam Akinaka netted a goal past Sutherland on an assist from midfielder Kamuela Kamoe in the 53rd minute. The score came just seconds after the AAU was issued a yellow card and the Knights tried to keep their composure down 1-0. Unfortunately for the home team, Academy of Art had just one more shot on goal in the second half.

In the contest, Academy of Art University had shots on goal by Bozlak, Patino-Calvo, and sophomore midfielder Daniel Waller. Freshman forward Daniel Higa came off the bench to attempt two shots as well. Sutherland played all 90 minutes for AAU allowing one goal with five saves and he was supported by one team save.

On BYU-Hawaii's side, midfielders William Barber and Chris McElwee each had five shots though it was Akinaka who came off the bench to score the Seasiders' only goal. Kamoe had the assist as well as a shot on goal himself. Between the pipes, goalkeeper Cory Cosgrave recorded a shutout with no goals allowed and three saves.

A quick turn-around comes for the Urban Knights who play again on Monday when they will face Chaminade University at Crocker Amazon Park. Kickoff is set for 3:00 PM following the women's soccer match.
