Women's Soccer Loses Close One Against Cal State Monterey Bay

Box Score

Monterey, CA --

The AAU Women's Soccer team, fresh off their trip to Hawaii where they played 4 games in 6 days, faced CSUMB yesterday in a well-fought match that ended in a 1-0 victory for CSUMB.  T
he win was the first for the CSUMB Otters who moved to 1-7-1 on the year as the Urban Knights drop to 1-6-1.  The first half remained scoreless as the Urban Knights tallied 3 shots against an experienced Otter defense.  The lone goal of the game came 7:47 into the second half by sophomore Carrie La Ponza.  AAU rallied together after giving up a goal and dominated the second half with 10 solid shots on goal.  Unfortunately the Urban Knights were unable to connect on any of their shots and the game ended in a 1-0 victory for the Otters.

Freshman goalie Shelby Magallon had a great game, saving 6 of 7 shots on goal by CSUMB.  Freshmen Therasa Sianez and Emi Sullivan also had a solid game, with 2 and 3 shots each, respectively.

The Urban Knights (1-6-1) return to action next Wednesday, October 1, at 3pm against San Francisco State University next week at SFSU.
