Cross Country's Edward Kibet Finished First at USF Invitational

San Francisco, Cali--
The Academy of Art University's Cross Country team is not like any other team at the Academy of Art University. Coach Mike Spino traveled  to Kenya to compile his team of runners. Both the Men's and Women's Cross Country teams are made up of a total of 8 Kenyans and one female athlete, Irineli Zzmfir, from Romania. The Academy of Art is pleased to have international students running for the university. President Elisa Stephens took time out to welcome the international students and wish them luck with the season (shown above)

The star of the Academy of Art University's first meet at the USF Invitational on August 30 was freshman Edward "Killer" Kibet Taragon. Taragon ,from Kenya, was first place in the men's race running the 8K in 25:06, and beat out runners from both Stanford and UC Berkeley. The men's team finished in fourth place beating San Jose State and Sonoma State and losing to Cal, USF and Stanford.

Also running a good race  was Kennedy Kurgat who finished 13th . According to Coach Mike Spino Kurgat could be Academy of Art's potential 4 minute miler.  The best runner for the women's team was Irineli Zamfir from Rumania who finished 29th.
