GOLDEN GATE CLASSIC
After opening the 2017 season with a tie against Cal State East Bay, Academy of Art's focus will now turn towards hosting the second installment of the Golden Gate Classic. The teams participating this year will be: Holy Names, Humboldt State, SF State and of course, Academy of Art. This year, ART U will face off with both HSU and SFSU.

KICKOFF
Friday's match against the Lumberjacks will kickoff at Beach Chalet at 1:00 p.m. Then, the Urban Knights will take on SF State on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at USF's Negoesco Stadium. KNOTABLE KNIGHTS
Sophomore midfielder Isiah Quiros dominated the stat sheets in ART U's first game against Cal State East Bay. The Novato, Calif. native scored the Knights' only goal and took five shots in total (two on-goal). Junior midfielder Bobby Gutierrez had three shots during the contest and freshman mid Jaret Gil had the team's only assist. 

JACKS ARE 1-1 TO BEGIN THE FALL
After dropping their first match by a score of 0-2 to Concordia (Ore.), HSU bounced back with a resounding 3-0 victory against Saint Martin's on September 2. Francisco Calderon is currently the team leader with four points off of two goals which was accomplished with just two shots on goal. Marco Silveira is the only other Lumberjack with a goal thus far, as he scored the team's second goal in the 79th-minute against the Saints. 

GATORS ON A ROLL
SF State enters the Golden Gate Classic with a perfect, 3-0 record and with two shutouts already under their belts. Altogether, the Gators have outscored their opponents 10-2 thus far and are on a six-match winning streak that dates back to last season. Richard Leon is currently the team leader with six points, thanks to a pair of goals and assists. Rainier Plantinos leads the squad with three goals however, and Sam Gebremiche is tied with Leon with two goals as well. 

PREVIOUS MATCH: URBAN KNIGHTS, PIONEERS DRAW AFTER 2 OTs 
Sept. 3 - After a total of 110 minutes on the field, Sunday's match was decided in a matter of 40 seconds: after the Pioneers knocked in the first goal of the game off of a penalty kick in the 32nd-minute, sophomore midfielder Isiah Quiros responded just over half of a minute later with an equalizer and the match's final goal.

LOOKING AHEAD
After closing out the Golden Gate Classic, ART U will host NAIA William Jessup on September 16 to close out the non-conference portion of the schedule.
