Adam Cave

  • Title
    Video Coordinator
Adam Cave was added to the Academy of Art University men's basketball coaching staff posthumously as the program’s video coordinator in July 2019.

Cave, who passed away in 2016, is honored in the role by head coach Scott Waterman after he put together a strong scouting skillset in his time at Pomona-Pitzer College and beyond.

“Adam Cave was a tremendous young man who had a passion for basketball, especially breaking down film, and was a rising star in the profession,” said Waterman. “However, Adam was an even better person, with a kind heart, funny loving personality, and positively impacted all of those who he came into contact with.”

In his last two years as a Sagehen, he served as an intern with the Los Angeles Clippers in their data analytics department. In the summer of 2015, he worked for the Los Angeles Sparks in their Public Relations department and he spent the subsequent 2015-16 academic as student-assistant coach for the Pomona-Pitzer men’s basketball team. The Sagehens produced both the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year (Daniel Rosenbaum) and a First Team All-SCIAC honoree (Gibson Farone-Collins) while leading the conference in rebounding that year.

Upon his graduation from Pomona-Pitzer with a bachelor’s degree in Media Studies in 2016, Cave landed a dream job as the video coordinator for the Los Angeles Lakers’ Development League team, the D-Fenders. He was part of the coaching staff, worked with players at practice, and provided film to scout other teams as well as improve the D-Fenders.

“I promised Adam that if I ever became a head coach, he would be my video coordinator,” said Waterman. “Now that the time has come, I want to uphold my end of the bargain to him.”
